Sizes are available from 150 ɸ to 800 ɸ with Pitch equal to or less than diameter. The maximum length without hanger bearing is 8m and with hanger bearing it will be upto 20m. Screw flights are forged and welded to the central pipe. Solid end shafts are welded/bolted to pipe as required. The end shafts are supported in spherical roller bearings in bearing housing or plummer blocks to take care of axial and radial load. Suitable shaft seal is provided to prevent leakage between shaft & end cover. Large clearance is maintained between the screw & trough so that a layer of material remains stagnant over the casing plate thereby protecting the casing. When handling abrasive materials screw flights tend to wear out fast. To ensure a reasonable life of the screw the edge of flight in contact with material is hard faced to a suitable width, thickness and hardness.
The drive unit is shaft mounted or geared motor with chain drive or geared motor direct coupled to shaft. Variable speed drive is also available.
For long Screw conveyors hanger bearings can be provided at 3 to 6 m distance. Hanger bearings are provided with needle bearings that are completely sealed from dust with lubrication facility from outside.
